Malaysian drug bust

Kuala Lumpur (dpa) – Malaysian police believe they have crippled

an international drug ring with the seizure of 200 kilograms of

methamphetamine worth 40 million ringgit (12.5 million dollars) and

the arrest of an Iranian couple, a news report said Tuesday.

Anti-narcotics police conducted a raid late Thursday at the

couple’s rented home in an upmarket residential area in Kuala Lumpur,

and discovered 328 litres of methamphetamine oil.

Police arrested a 39-year-old Iranian national on the same day,

and his wife, 34, the next day, said city police chief Sabtu

Osman.

“We seized equipment used to process the drugs,” Sabtu was quoted

as saying by the Star newspaper.

Police said they are searching for another Iranian national to

assist in investigations.

Authorities have detained more than 50 Iranians for drug offences

in Malaysia this year.
