India is reeling after yet another sexual violence incident, this time the pack rape of a 39 year old Swiss woman cycling India’s tourist trails with her husband.
The couple were journeying to the Taj Mahal at Agra when they set up camp in a clearing. Seven men armed with sticks beat and tied up the woman’s husband, before proceeding to strip naked and pack rape the Swiss woman.
After the vicious attack, the assailants made off with US$180 and the couple’s cellphone.
Official figures show a woman is raped in India every 22 minutes.
The country is still in shock over the rape and murder of a 23 year old medical student on a bus in Delhi late last year. One of the five men accused of that crime hanged himself in prison while awaiting trial last week.
Police investigating the latest outrage have interviewed at least 30 men, but there have been no arrests as yet.
