Specialist search teams and the police Eagle helicopter are searching a suburb in Auckland where a toddler appears to have been snatched from her home.
Alyssa Barker, 18 months old, was supposedly kidnapped from her home on Tuhurangi Rd in Makarua by a family friend, Skye Mason, 27.
The two of them disappeared yesterday around 3pm, and had not been seen since about 10 pm, when someone spotted them at a Glen Eden property.
Mason had no permanent residence, according to Detective Inspector Stan Brown. This, the amount of time that had passed and the low temperatures overnight was of “great concern,” he said.
“Having said that, the people who saw them last observed that Skye was caring for Alyssa as if she were her own child,” Brown added.
Alyssa is a stocky girl with blue eyes and sandy blonde hair. She was wearing pink and white striped tights, a green and white t-shirt and gum boots.
Mason is a slim-to-medium build Caucasian, roughly 160cm tall, with golden-brown long hair. She was wearing black adidas pants, a pale blue shirt with dark patterns, gloves and white adidas shoes.
Police are urging for anybody who has seen them to call 111.
