David Cameron to visit New Zealand

Wellington (dpa) – British Prime Minister David Cameron will make an official visit to New Zealand next week before going to Perth, Australia, for a Commonwealth summit meeting, his host counterpart John Key announced Friday.
“The relationship between New Zealand and the United Kingdom is a very deep one – it is one of our oldest and closest,” Key said.
“We have strong ties between our people and businesses and a shared outlook on international affairs. This visit will give us an opportunity to celebrate those historical ties.” He gave no details of the visit, expected to be on October 26-27, apart from saying it would include a formal meeting between the two leaders and a short trip to Christchurch.
The South Island’s largest city, which is known as the most English of New Zealand cities, was badly damaged by a series of earthquakes over the last 13 months.
Key said further details would be released next week.
