Tirana/Belgrade (dpa) – At least three people died and five have gone missing after a cargo ship collided with a ferry and sank off the Albanian Adriatic coast, port authorities in Durres said Thursday.
Two people were saved. Rescuers retrieved one body and saw two more, but their efforts to pull them from the water were hampered by rough seas.
The stricken ship was in Turkish ownership and was sailing under a Maltese flag. It was bound for Montenegro, north of Albania on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea.
The cause of the accident was being investigated, Albanian authorities said.
