Ghosts of Anzac book follows life and death of WW1 unit

A unique 100 year old Anzac diary from the Somme battlefield has been published in book form to give people a fly on the wall perspective of life in the trenches.

It’s the diary of Onesimus William Howe of the 1st Auckland Battalion, who served at Gallipoli, then the Somme, then Passchendaele, and survived to tell the story. Most of his unit did not.

The book featured in TVNZ Sunday tonight, and the first chapter is available online, along with email links if you want information on ordering.
