Sao Paulo/Caracas (dpa) – Searchers found the body of a Venezuelan governor on Saturday, a day after his car rolled off a highway into a river.
The body of Willian Lara was found downstream from where the accident occurred.
Lara’s driver survived the accident. Media reports said he had apparently lost control of the vehicle.
The driver said he tried to help the governor, but the currents were too strong and he was swept away.
Lara was elected governor of the state of Guarico in 2008. He had previously been a minister of information.
