CHICAGO, Nov. 27 (UPI) —
A Chicago mother and her boyfriend were charged Sunday in the beating to death of her son on the child’s fourth birthday, police said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said Christopher Valdez was pronounced dead of multiple blunt force injuries from child abuse at 3:10 p.m. Friday, the Chicago Tribune reported. His death was ruled a homicide, the newspaper said.
The boyfriend, Cesar Ruiz, 34, was charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death. He also had been wanted on a warrant regarding a suspended/revoked drivers license.
The mother, Crystal Valdez, 28, was charged with concealing a homicidal death and endangering the life of a child causing death.
Police said the pair are expected to be in court Monday for a bond hearing, the Tribune said.
The boy’s body was found by relatives who showed up at his home for a birthday party, his grandfather, Tom Valdez, told the newspaper.
