20 die from crushing in techno tunnel parties

Berlin (dpa) – German police have withdrawn permission for a

planned techno dance party in a closed-off motorway tunnel, in the

wake of the 20 deaths at Saturday’s Love Parade, local media reported

Wednesday.

The so-called Techno Tunnel Party, planned for September 11 in a

motorway underpass in the Baltic-coast city of Rostock had also been

the subject of police concerns over security, the Ostsee Zeitung

reported.

So far 20 people have died and more than 500 were injured as a

result of a crush in an overfilled access tunnel at the Love Parade

dance music festival in Duisburg on Saturday.

On Tuesday evening the city’s coroner reported that all of the

victims in the Love Parade had died from asphyxiation caused by

crushing. Earlier reports had suggested that some deaths had occurred

as people fell from walls as they tried to escape the crush.
