Bulgari’s Aqua Amara launches in New Zealand

New Zealand may be 16,000 kilometres from the Greek Islands, but fragrance specialist Bulgari is hoping to take people on that journey with the release of a new men’s fragrance, Aqua Amara. Throw in some scentual notes from Sicilian mandarin and Tunisian neroli and you have a package that evokes early Western civilisation as it emerged around the Mediterranean coastline.

“With its powerful personality, Aqua Amara follows in the footsteps of the best selling Aqua Pour Homme fragrance, an aquatic, noble and masculine Eau De Toilette that brings to mind the power and deepness of the sea,” Bulgari stated this week to mark the launch of the new range.

The company went with its concept of a “masculine Greek god” to personify Amara in its global advertising campaign.

“The Aqua universe is tinged with the shades of the Mediterranean’s volcanic soil – a lush patchwork of colourful vegetation created by a mix of flowers and plants that hail from the farthest corners of the world. A basin that conjures images of escapism, of seafaring adventures, of time honoured myths and creatures.

“Both the new fragrance Aqua Amara and the exclusive campaign shot by Mario Sorrenti pay tribute to the Mediterranean by channelling the invigorating richness and emotions of this immerse stretch of blue water and the sculptural virility of a latter – day Greek hero.”

Don’t be fooled by the masculine references however, Aqua Amara is – according to Bulgari master perfumer Jacques Cavallier – also tuned for women as well as men.

Given that the written word is not yet ‘scratch and sniff’, you’ll need to visit your local fragrance counter to sample Aqua Amara, but Bulgari’s fragrance notes follow if you’re after the details:

THE FRAGRANCE

Top Notes: Sicilian Mandarin and the Tunisian essence of Neroli. Mandarin has a vibrant note, at once bitter, floral and zesty.

The Tunisian essence of Neroli which comes from the bitter orange tree, has a light floral scent with a hint of bitterness, which enhances the elegance of the fragrance.

Heart Notes: At heart of Aqua Amara is the water note originally developed for Aqua Pour Homme. A water note that responds to a sense of well being, one near and dear to the Roman’s who indulged in hydrotherapy and its richly beneficial waters.

Base Notes: Indonesian Patchouli of the purest variety, pulsates  in the base notes. Notes that elevate the preciousness of this rich water. By extending the fragrance’s luminosity.

Enriched with olibanum, this note adds a composite of density and freshness to Aqua Amara.
