Sex-scandal mayor Len Brown could face private prosecution

Embattled Auckland mayor Len Brown could face a private prosecution over undeclared donations from Sky City Casino, at the hands of the same team that successfully took previous Auckland mayor John Banks to court.

Anti-corruption investigators Penny Bright and Lisa Prager have warned the Serious Fraud Office that if they don’t properly investigate the $39,000 of undeclared hotel rooms and upgrades given to Mayor Brown, a private prosecution of the Mayor will begin.

Brown, who had been an opponent of the controversial Sky City Casino expansion, changed his position on the deal during the time he was using free hotel rooms to have sex with his mistress Bevan Chuang.

In an open letter to the Serious Fraud Office, Bright writes of the private prosecution:

“Both Lisa Prager and myself do hope that this will not be necessary and look forward to the NZ Serious Fraud Office ‘doing your job’, as the ‘lead agency’ in New Zealand tasked with investigating bribery and corruption complaints.”
