Auckland mayor Len Brown admits two year affair, accused of sex acts in Council office

Whaleoil blogger Cameron Slater has either written a suicide note by way of a defamation lawsuit, or he believes he’s right in publishing a major story this afternoon accusing Auckland mayor Len Brown of marital infidelity.

The story, penned by journalist Stephen Cook, appears on Slater’s website, and has explicit details of an alleged affair between the 57 year old mayor and a 32 year old woman – young enough to be his daughter, named Bevan Chuang.

Late this afternoon, Brown confirmed the affair in a brief statement and said he would not be commenting further:

“I don’t intend to comment on the highly personalised allegations made on a blog site this afternoon.

But I do confirm that I had a relationship with a woman that lasted around two years.

“I told my wife previously, and she and I are working through the issues privately. We are looking to protect our children as best we can.

“These are matters of an entirely personal nature and I ask that the media respect my family’s privacy.”

Brown confirmed the woman was not a council employee but served on a council advisory board and stood in this year’s election for a local board.

The mayor, who was re-elected Saturday with a 50,000 majority, is accused among other things of masturbating at his mayoral desk while talking to the woman on the phone.

Brown has not indicated any intention to resign.
