New Zealand’s Auckland Airport is in a health lockdown after 60 passengers on a flight from Japan developed flu-like symptoms in flight.
The Air New Zealand flight was carrying 274 people from Narita, and officials says a “major health response” is underway at the airport with the involvement of national and regional health officials.
The Boeing 777-200 remains quarantined on the tarmac while paramedics in safety suits assess the condition of up to 73 ill people on the flight. Some reports indicated many of those affected may be school children returning from a trip to Japan.
Breathing masks are being distributed at the airport.
