The Conservative Party of NZ has ditched decades of political tradition and chosen to kick off its 2017 Election campaign in a virtual launch online, rather than a damp city hall on a cold winter’s night.
In an email-out to supporters and media this morning, party chairman Kevin Stitt announced the Conservatives are staging a free online webinar this weekend featuring the campaign launch by new party leader Leighton Baker, followed by a town hall style Q&A where webinar attendees can fire questions at Baker.
The party appears to be banking on virtual technology as a more efficient means of reaching its support base nationwide, with people able to attend the party launch from the comfort of their armchairs at home.
The launch is taking place at 7pm this Saturday, 20 May. The text of the party’s media release follows:
