Turkey votes for early Christmas

New Zealand Post has caused a stir this week amongst its business customers with a letter advising it will no longer be accepting cheques in the mail as payment for its accounts.

With email already now devouring the bulk of written business communication traffic, NZ Post is now removing one of the only remaining useful benefits of snail mail – sending cheques for business to business transactions.

Although it is only NZ Post itself now refusing to accept posted cheques, it sends a clear signal to other corporates and SMEs that the day of the posted cheque is over.

If that idea catches on, what will NZ Post executives be doing with their time each day, three years from now?
