Manila (dpa) – Four people were killed when their homes were swept away by floods in the southern Philippines, police said Saturday.

A 7-month-old baby was also missing in the flooding in San Isidro village in Koronadal City, 930 kilometres south of Manila.

Chief Inspector Jomar Alexis Yap, a regional police spokesman, said more than 200 residents were forced to flee their homes after hours of torrential rains caused the floods late Friday.

“The victims were living at the foot of a mountain where the flashfloods came from, washing away two houses,” Yap said.

A mother, her two children aged 10 and 5, and an elderly woman died.

Yap said search teams were looking for the missing infant.
